“Therefore do not cast away your confidence, which has great reward.” Hebrews 10:35 NKJV
Praying Effectively
To have a powerful prayer life you must learn to pray in power. As a child of God, you don’t walk into your Father’s presence timidly. You’re not walking on eggshells. He delights in you. Yet, if you evaluate the average prayer life, you’ll find most people are either begging God to move or trying to bribe Him to move.
If you want to learn how to pray effectively you must learn this one great truth: God is for you.

Confidence in God is an undeniable weapon we must utilize in the place of prayer. Please don’t mistake confidence for brashness. You must embrace the revelation that God is both sovereign and that by the sacrifice of Jesus we can now call Him Father. If we are going to pray effectively we must pray confidently. Here are six verses that give us permission to pray to God with confidence:
- “The effective, fervent prayer of a righteous man avails much.” (James 5:16 NKJV)
- “Now this is the confidence that we have in Him, that if we ask anything according to His will, He hears us. And if we know that He hears us, whatever we ask, we know that we have the petitions that we have asked of Him.” (1 John 5:14-15 NKJV)
- “Therefore I say to you, whatever things you ask when you pray, believe that you receive them, and you will have them.” (Mark 11:24 NKJV)
- “The eyes of the Lord are on the righteous, and His ears are open to their cry.” (Psalm 34:15 NKJV)
- “Because of Christ and our faith in him, we can now come boldly and confidently into God’s presence.” (Ephesians 3:12 NLT)
- “So let us come boldly to the throne of our gracious God. There we will receive his mercy, and we will find grace to help us when we need it most.” (Hebrews 4:16 NLT)
Confidence and the Free Gift of God
Our confidence comes from only one source – we have been made righteous by the blood of Jesus! Paul said in Ephesians 2:8-9 that, “By grace you have been saved through faith, and that not of yourselves; it is the gift of God, not of works, lest anyone should boast.” We can pray with confidence because of the free gift of God! Don’t cast away your confidence!
