The same Jesus that said, “I have come that they may have life, and that they may have it more abundantly” (John 10:10) also said, “Then Jesus said to His disciples, “If anyone desires to come after Me, let him deny himself, and take up his cross, and follow Me.” (Matthew 16:24) You can’t have one without the other. Until we give Jesus our life, He will not give us His.
For too long, the predominant display of Christianity in our world, has been one of “saints” who haven’t really surrendered. Halfhearted surrender leads to a life full of misery. We were never meant to ride the fence.
Paul knew that the key to real life in Christ was found in laying it all at the feet of Jesus. One of my life verses and greatest aspirations is to be able to say, as Paul, with humble confidence, “I have been crucified with Christ; it is no longer I who live, but Christ lives in me; and the life which I now live in the flesh I live by faith in the Son of God, who loved me and gave Himself for me.” (Galatians 2:20)
If you find yourself trapped inside of lifeless Christianity, it’s time to tap out. Lay it all down! I’ll never forget hearing the Spirit whisper to me, “It’s not the 80% you’re giving me that is killing you. It is the 20% you’re holding onto.”
